How Useful Are Solar Energy Systems?
Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only be transformed from one form to another. As scientific as it sounds its applications in day to day life are of very great importance. The energy obtained from the sun is in the form of radiations. These radiations are converted into conductive form or carried on by convection by different materials. This energy in the form of heat doesn’t remain concentrated for long and gets dissipated in the atmosphere. That’s why we have solar storage systems which not only harness this energy better and more efficiently but also they store the energy in the form they harness. Different solar energy systems store the solar energy in different forms. They mainly are in the form of heat and electricity.
The more orthodox solar energy systems store the incident solar energy in the form of heat. They make use of liquids or air that act as storage devices which get heat due to concentration of solar energy on them. Since they are bad conductors of heat they store the energy for a longer period of time.
Buildings are specially made in such a way so as to allow maximum solar energy to enter the building and also the walls are specially bricked so as to absorb maximum energy. Flat plate collectors are used to heat up the water and then this water is stored in tanks and pumped to various parts of the building providing warmth. This water can also be used for other purposes. The solar energy systems are also specially designed to heat up the water in the swimming pools and Jacuzzi’s. In the agriculture industry specially designed solar energy systems also known as green houses are used to give warmth to plants during winters. They are also used in hilly regions, cold countries etc.
Another type of solar energy system is a one which converts the incident solar energy into electrical energy. Special equipment known as photovoltaic cells is used to convert the solar energy into electrical energy. They are made of silicon crystals or semiconductors. They are generally linked to batteries which serve the purpose of saving and transport of the electricity. This electricity is then used in fans, lights, air conditioners, etc. Some solar energy systems use conventional batteries while others connect the electrical equipment to the public utility grids which then allow a continuous supply of electricity. Some even sell off the extra electricity they accumulate to the electricity companies.
There are varied varieties of solar energy systems which serve different purposes based on the different needs of the public.
Since solar energy is a pure form of energy free from pollution and abundant, more people are ready to take measure to install the appropriate equipment required to use it. It helps to be able to become less dependent on conventional sources of energy. It is also a self sufficient energy and the solar energy systems assure such standards are met.
Although energy is finally lost it is possible to save it and put it to good use. Hence the solar energy systems find a purpose in not only residential areas but also in industrial and occupational areas as well.
